Have you been thinking about going back to school, or starting a business but don't know where to start or feel like you're lacking energy and motivation? For many people with full-time jobs and the demands of family life, it can be hard to think about the possibility of starting something new or taking on a big project. Juggling all the responsibilities that come with a job, taking care of loved ones, and making time to pursue ambitions can feel like an impossible balance. But there are plenty of strategies to make it possible! Whether you want to reach a certain career milestone or simply focus on yourself in order to live a more fulfilling life, these tips will help keep your motivation and focus on track even when life gets tough.

Make a list of your goals, both short-term and long-term.

When the idea of starting a blog came to me, I had no idea where to start. All I knew was that I wanted to start a website/blog that would allow me to stay home with my kids. However, I did not know how to create a website, what topics I wanted to write about, or how much time it would actually require from me. Honestly, it took me a while to realize that I had to sit down, think about my goals, and write them out. Once everything was written down I got serious and made it my priority to start my own business.

Running my own business means I will be able to stay home to raise my kids. I want to run a business that helps others understand nutrition and heal their relationship with food to live a more fulfilling life. I would also love to help my parents retire. But none of those goals can be accomplished without me putting in the work. This means waking up early or maybe going to bed later than usual, reading and learning (because I don't know it all), networking, and growing at a personal level. I wrote it all down!

Now, it's time for you to think about your goals. What is it that you want to accomplish? Maybe you've been thinking about starting your own business, exercising twice a week, or saving for a car. Think about it and write it down. Then ask yourself, what habits do I need to change to make my goals happen?

Create a plan of action for how you will achieve each goal and when.

The number one reason why I see a lot of people fail to reach their goals is that they don’t have a plan. They think they will figure it out along the way or that things will magically fall into place. But that is not how it works! It took me a while to realize I had to set up a timeline (goals) in order to get things going and keep myself accountable.

When I started this journey my first step was to create a website and I had to learn how to do that. I made a step-by-step plan that outlined the exact steps I needed to take in order to reach my goal. This included researching tutorials and tools that would help me create the blog and setting up a timeline for when each task should be completed. I set a 3-month goal to get my website going and although it took me longer than that my website is now live! because you're here reading this blog post.

Your plan should include the steps you need to take and deadlines for when you want to have them done. A plan of action helps you have a clear and concise idea of what is required from you to achieve your goals.

I highly encourage you to create a plan of action and break down goals into smaller, more manageable tasks. Once you have your list of goals and tasks, organize it in order of priority. This will help you stay focused on what’s most essential and also gauge your progress toward achieving the goal.

Remember, motivation comes from the feeling of accomplishment so make sure to celebrate each little step you take in the right direction!

Write down why each goal is important to you

Your goals are uniquely important to you and what you want to get out of them. Again, sit down and ask yourself, why are these goals important? Not your husband, your kids, or your friends but to YOU! Ask yourself why am I doing this?

Personally, I had a big Aha! moment when I got laid off from work during COVID. I was very lucky and grateful for the time I got to stay home and spend time with my son, it really humbled me. I learned so much from him while at the same time realizing I had terrible habits I needed to break free from. I was able to work on myself and understand why my goals were so important and how they were connected to my beliefs, wants, and needs. I used that energy to push forward and start my blog. I wanted to be able to create something on my own and learn new skills I was passionate about. This is why this goal is important to me and motivates me to wake up every day and keep going.

I hope you take the time to make a plan, set goals, and understand the motivations behind them. It’s important to take the time to get clear on what you want and why you want it in order to stay motivated, focused, and consistent even when life throws you a curve ball. Having a full-time job and still trying to pursue your dreams can be a challenging task, but if you stay focused, believe in yourself, and put in the work, you will get there! Make sure to keep those goals in mind and take action today!

Find a support group or accountability partner to help keep you on track

Reach out to your community of like-minded people who are on the same journey as you. Having a group of people who are focused on helping you reach your goals can be incredibly motivating and inspiring. It’s so much easier to stay motivated when you know you’re not alone.

When I started my blog, I joined a few online communities and connected with others who were also starting their own blogs. It was amazing to be surrounded by people who understood what I was going through and were just as determined to reach their goals.

Your network of supporters can also help you stay focused on the tasks that are most important and help you overcome any obstacles along the way. Surround yourself with people who will lift you up, challenge, and motivate you. There are a lot of support groups online if you don't have one. All you need to do is search and join one.

Don't give up when things get tough - keep pushing forward until you reach your goals!

Motivation and consistency are key. Keep reminding yourself why these goals are important to you and don't let anyone or anything stand in your way. Because let me tell you, shit will happen that's just life! There will be rocks in the road, failures, and unexpected challenges that will come your way and it's okay! You will have days when you feel discouraged and overwhelmed. Days when you will have a lot of self-doubt and think it will be easier if you just give up. But remember that saying , "If it was easy, everyone would do it?" yeah, exactly! you know where I'm going with this.

If you had set a timeline to begin on a project and for some reason you didn't achieve it. It's okay, acknowledge it and move on but don't give up! You gotta get up every day and keep trying even if it's just a little.

Hard work, dedication, and a strong support system can make all your goals a reality - no matter how big they may seem. Motivation is the fire that will keep you going. Believe in yourself, don't let your inner voice hold you back, and go get what you want no matter how ambitious it may be!

I understand, trust me I'm in that full-time job boat just like you. I know it's frustrating and extremely tiring but I keep my eyes on the prize when things get tough. I look forward to the day I can finally work from home with my kids. Having a full-time day job is not going to stop me, and shouldn't stop you either from achieving your goals. It's time for you to make a plan, set small achievable goals, and understand the motivations that drive you. I hope this post shed some light, encouragement, and motivation to take action on your goals today!

Good luck and happy planning!
